Tag Line Ideas

v     Pray for her
v     How strong is your faith?
v     Those who do not know their history…are doomed to repeat it
v     Faith and love don’t always agree
v     The path of true faith never did run smooth
v     Pray the lord my soul to take
v     Destroy your sins before they destroy you
v     Time cannot save a sinful soul

We came up with these ideas for the film poster's tag line. Some of them seemed too long and others didn't seem to add anything to the information presented to the audience. On other horror film posters, the tag line may give  clues about the narrative or reference something significant.
We showed our ideas to members of our target audience and asked them which one sounded the best and sounded like a good tag line. The majority seemed to like "The path of true faith never did run smooth", so we chose this tag line. We also found out from the feedback that the tag line "Those who do not know their history…are doomed to repeat it", would look good in the trailer, so we might include it as a strap line in the trailer.

Camera and Lighting Ideas

   Camera
v     When introducing the place where the film is set, we will use an establishing shot. Most supernatural horror trailers do this at the start of their trailer to help set the scene.
v     Medium long shots will be used to help introduce the characters and their appearances. Possibly to also show which of the characters has more authority over the other.
v     Many close-up shots will be used and zoom-ins that become close-ups. These will either be of the characters’ face to help show their emotions and reactions; or to add more significance to certain items or characters in the plot of the story.
v     Over the shoulder shots will be used at certain points that might also be combined with a tracking shot. This will create the impression as if someone if looking over the character’s shoulder and watching their every move, whist the character is oblivious. It could also make the audience think that they are the ones following the character which creates empathy between the character and the audience.
v     Some shots that may be reflected in a mirror and it’s what is in the reflection that the audience are ment to focus on. So whist the shot may be a mid-long shot, the reflection will change the shot to a long shot.
v     Two shots will be used when characters are interacting or if there is some sort of connection between them.
v     During the fast paced montage, shot reverse shots will be used to create a parallel between the actions of the past older sister and the present older sister.

Lighting
v     Seeing as some of the scenes need to be shot at night, we only have control of the lighting to a point, especially when shooting outside.
v     When Alice enters the attic, the only source of light is the ambient light from the downstairs hallway. The attic is has no light so it looks as if Alice is entering a dark and dangerous place.
v     In the scene where the spirit is seen in the mirror, the main character will have ambient lighting, but the spirit will be covered in shadows, with only some soft lighting to make it easier to see some of her features, but not clearly enough to make her out perfectly. This will look as if wherever she is, she brings darkens with her. This is repeated when she is seen through the window.
v     When filming outside, we will predominantly be relying on natural lighting and avoiding using night vision, because it tends to make the footage too bright. Instead, we will work with the light we have and make it darker in editing if need be.

Costume Make-Up and Location

These are our final ideas on the costume and make-up we will use from the shoots on the actors. It also displays a range of locations that we may or may not use for filming major scenes.

Practise Shots

After deciding on the general layout and genre of our film, I went out and took some practice shots of places where we could possibly use for shooting. I took some pictures that could represent the drawing of our storyboard and some general pictures of places that you might see in horror films that help to create a mysterious and possibly eerie mood.

This is the window from where the possessed girl would jump from, but the modern window frames could pose a  problem to authenticity of the time period.

These were all pictures of places where the older sister is running through to find her younger sister. I think it looks really good and would sets a scary mood because of all the overgrowth. It makes the places look untended and abandoned./ deserted.

I also took some practise images of what the magazine cover's main images might look like and experimented a bit using Photoshop to get a better picture of how the whole piece would look like with the other magazine cover elements. I'm glad I did this because in the practise images the models were too close to the camera so when shooting the final images the positioning of the models would have to be reworked to leave space for all the elements that would be placed on the cover.

These sort of poses I found were common amongst film magazine covers that had more than one  model. One model would stand behind the other, which I thought would work well for the cover because it would make it seem like the older sister is protecting the younger sister.

Initial Storyboard

This is the initial storyboard me and my partner have created as an early idea of what our trailer could look like. It was drawn out to just give us an idea of what kinds of shots we might use and any props or costumes we might need.
Annotations will be included in the final version of our storyboard.
